Facebook and Instagram Shops let customers browse and buy your products without leaving social media. Connected to Shopify, your inventory syncs automatically. Here’s how to set it up.
Why Sell on Facebook and Instagram?
- 3.5 billion active users across Meta platforms
- Customers can buy without leaving the app (in-app checkout in supported countries)
- Product tags in posts and stories create shoppable content
- Meta’s ad platform is more powerful when connected to your catalog
Step 1: Install the Facebook and Instagram App on Shopify
In the Shopify App Store, install “Facebook and Instagram.” This connects your Shopify product catalog to Meta Commerce Manager.
Step 2: Set Up Meta Commerce Manager
In the app, follow the onboarding to:
- Connect your Facebook Business account
- Connect your Facebook Page and Instagram account
- Set up a Commerce account
- Choose “Shopify” as your checkout method (recommended) or “Checkout on Facebook/Instagram”
Step 3: Create Your Shop
In Meta Commerce Manager, create your Shop by selecting which products from your Shopify catalog to include. You can show all products or create curated collections for your shop.
Step 4: Get Approved and Go Live
Meta reviews your shop against their Commerce Policies (usually 1-3 business days). Once approved, your shop goes live on your Facebook Page and Instagram profile.
Step 5: Tag Products in Posts and Stories
Once your catalog is connected, you can tag products in any Instagram post, Reel, or Story. When followers tap the tag, they see the product details and can add to cart.
Instagram Shopping Best Practices
- Create shoppable posts with lifestyle images showing products in use
- Use Instagram Reels for product demos — they get the most reach
- Add product stickers to Stories for time-limited promotions
- Run Shopping ads (catalog ads) to reach audiences beyond your followers
