Shopify Contact Form Not Sending Emails — 7 Fixes That Work

Your Shopify contact form is live, but emails never arrive. This is one of the most reported issues in the Shopify community. Here’s why it happens and exactly how to fix it.

Why Shopify Contact Form Emails Go Missing

Shopify sends contact form submissions from a @shopify.com address on behalf of your store email. Many email providers — Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo — flag these as spam because the “From” address doesn’t match your domain’s SPF/DKIM records.

Fix 1: Check Your Spam Folder First

Before anything else, look in your spam or junk folder. Shopify’s contact form emails frequently land there. If you find them, mark them as “Not spam” and add the Shopify sender to your contacts.

Fix 2: Set a Custom Sender Email

In Shopify Admin → Settings → Notifications, verify your store email. Click Send verification email if it’s not yet verified. An unverified sender email means Shopify uses a generic address that spam filters distrust.

Fix 3: Add an SPF Record for Shopify

In your domain’s DNS settings, make sure your SPF record includes Shopify’s mail servers:

v=spf1 include:shops.shopify.com ~all

Fix 4: Use a Third-Party Form App

Apps like Hulk Form Builder or Powerful Contact Form Builder send emails through their own reliable infrastructure with proper authentication. They also add features like file uploads, conditional fields, and auto-responders.

Fix 5: Forward to a Different Email Provider

Try changing your notification email to a Gmail address temporarily. Gmail tends to receive Shopify emails more reliably than custom domain addresses.

Fix 6: Install an SMTP App

Apps like SendGrid or Mailgun connect your Shopify store to a dedicated SMTP relay, giving you full control over email delivery and authentication.

Fix 7: Test With Shopify’s Order Notification

Go to Settings → Notifications → Order confirmation, and click “Send test notification” to verify your email infrastructure is working independently of the contact form.

Most contact form email issues are solved by SPF/DKIM alignment or switching to a dedicated form app. Start with the spam folder check, then work through these fixes in order.
